PSIA inspire future ICT leaders in Y4iT 2011
The Philippine Software Industry Association (PSIA) has again lent its hand in inspiring and educating the country’s future ICT leaders in the recently-concluded 9th Philippine Youth Congress in Information Technology (Y4iT 2011) held at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman.
This year’s Y4IT congress gathered more than 26,000 delegates--comprising leaders, professionals, educators and students from (the) different institutions nationwide--to learn from relevant, exciting talks on various new innovations and IT topics by the industry's well-known experts along with the media, government and the academe.
During the week-long convention, IT experts and practitioners led by PSIA directors and members --- Calen Legaspi of Orange and Bronze Software Labs; Joey Gurango of Gurango Software; Chentil Kumar of ECCI Group; Helen Macasaet of Pentathlon Systems Resources, Inc.; Jaypee Delos Santos of dB Wizards, Inc.; Martin Lopez Vito of Novare Technologies; Cecilia Anson of Tsukiden Global Solutions; and resource speakers from Accenture Philippines; Hewlett Packard Philippines, and Exist Global --- encouraged students, the academe and IT enthusiasts to continue supporting IT programs and take an active part in promoting Philippine progress through innovating the IT industry.
The Y4iT 2011 covered topics such as Mobile Marketing; Web 2.0 Technology in Education: Learning 2.0; Cloud Computing; E-Commerce; E-Governance; Values of Future IT Professionals; R&D in the Philippines a Reality; Smart Application; Data Visualization; Relevance of Art in Gaming; Game Development; Java; Android Development; Oracle Technologies; Trends and Challenges in Green IC; Linux Certification; Ubiquitous Computing; Automation in Commercial Aviation; and Global Software Engineering in a Distributed Environment.
Held from September 20-24 at the UP Theater, UP Film Institute, Ang Bahay ng Alumni, GT Toyota Asian Center, and Vidal A. Tan Hall, the 9th Y4iT featured more than 100 speakers, including prominent figures in the government such as Senators Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan II and Vicente “Tito” Sotto III and former Senators Richard “Dick” Gordon and Anna Dominique “Nikki” Marquez-Lim Coseteng.
The 9th Y4iT was organized by the UP Information Technology Training Center, UP System IT Foundation, and Y4iT Volunteer Corps, in cooperation with PSIA, Animation Council of the Philippines, Inc. (ACPI), Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP), Computing Society of the Philippines, DevCon, Game Developers Association of the Philippines, International Game Developers Association, International Open Source Network and the Philippine Society of IT Educators (PSITE).
