Queen's Website Gets Makeover
Queen Elizabeth II relaunched the royal website today after a major makeover. No champagne bottles were smashed against the servers, though.
The updated site has a clean, no-nonsense look; it has Flash, but tasteful Flash. They wisely stayed away from trendy elements, so they can probably get away with keeping the homepage unchanged for a while.
The site took me about two minutes to load, so I don't think they took traffic into account when allocating server resources...
More used to carrying out official duties with a sceptre and orb, Her Majesty instead unveiled the new site with a remote control, at a reception at Buckingham Palace.
Cyber-tourists can now take a virtual tour around some of Britain’s landmark royal palaces, with people able to view high-quality panoramic images of Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. The site also includes clips from the popular Royal Channel on YouTube, and access to rarely seen footage and documents from the Royal Archive.
I put this whole article together while waiting for the Latest Royal Images link to load, then waited a few more minutes, then just clicked "Preview".
