Qik Video

redsn0w follow-up

Dev-Team, those wily iPhone hackers, have set their sights on pwning the iPod Touch 2G... and have accomplished the mission. The hack is extremely manual (and must be run with each synch), but a user-friendly version is in the works.

Why, though, would you want to hack the iPod touch? It isn't tied to any contracts or anything. The motivation would be to run non-App Store applications on your device; one of the Qik videos shows a fleeting glimpse of an old-school NES emulator, for example.

Now, not only did the group confirm that the iPod touch 2G was the target device for redsn0w, but have gotten a bit closer to the goal. It seems that the process has been done but is still too manual for geeks like us. They plan on packaging and releasing a convenient GUI version shortly; no official ETA has been announced however.
These folks take their work very, very seriously, considering the product is free in the end. I'm just happy to know that they're out there... somewhere... breaking stuff.
When we announced yellowsn0w, we made the mistake of giving an ETA for its release…and that really clobbered the last day of 2008 for us.  So we won’t be issuing a formal ETA for the ipt2G jailbreak.  But we are putting a lot of energy into it.
