redsn0w & Pwnage Tool: iOS 4.3.1 Untethered Jailbreak- Video

redsn0w & Pwnage Tool Now Available for iPhone, iPod Touch, Apple TV

The iPhone Dev Team, has released new versions of redsn0w and Pwnage Tool, thanks to the work of security specialist Stefan Esser. The new version of redsn0w allows for an untethered jailbreak of iOS 4.3.1 devices:

iPhone 3GS
iPhone 4 (GSM version)
iPod Touch 3G, 4G
Apple TV 2g

Note that the new versions of redsn0w and Pwnage Tool won't work on the iPad 2, at least not yet. You can download redsn0w 0.9.6rc9 for Mac or Windows and Pwnage Tool (Mac only) 4.3 here. As with any exploits you choose to run on your iPhone, you run these tools at your own risk. RTFM and wave goodbye to your warranty; say hello to installing whichever apps you want.

redsn0w vs Pwnage Tool: Which Should You Use?

redsn0w and Pwnage Tool both serve to jailbreak your iOS device, which means that they grant you root access. redsn0w is easier to use, whereas Pwnage Tool allows you to install custom firmware bundles and preserve the iPhone's baseband for future unlocking. If you already jailbroken your iPhone or iPad with ultrasn0w, hold back on running the latest version of redsn0w:

WARNING WARNING — ultrasn0w users don’t update yet! We need to first release an update to ultrasn0w that fixes some incompatibilities when FW 4.3.1 is used on the older basebands supported by ultrasn0w. And remember once we do fix ultrasn0w for 4.3.1 (we’ll announce it here and on twitter), you must only get there via a custom IPSW from PwnageTool, Sn0wbreeze or xpwn! Don’t ever try to restore or update to a stock IPSW, or you’ll lose the unlock!
