Reliant Robin named worst British car
The Reliant Robin has been voted the worst British car of all time, in a survey conducted by the Discovery Channel's 'Wheeler Dealers' program.
2,000 British motorists were asked what they thought were the best and worst cars Britain had produced, and the infamous three-wheeler, which gained widespread notoriety as Del Boy's runabout in 'Only Fools and Horses', and also as Rowan Atkinson's nemesis in 'Mr Bean', took the top spot.
It's not hard to see why. With a woeful 0.7-litre engine – later uprated to a heady 0.8 litres – terrible stability and a fibreglass body, it is hardly an automotive masterpiece.
That said, the Robin gained quite a following in the 70s, as not only was it cheap but its three-wheeled status meant it didn't attract the same tax penalties as regular cars.
