More than 16 million RFID chips will be embedded in the bodies — I mean, tickets — of Olympic fans in Beijing this summer. Crazy that they'll be able to scan them from more than five metres away, no? I wonder what other data they'll be able to store -- perhaps some biometric information on the ticket holder? Or might that have to wait until the 2010 games in Vancouver?
For the first time at an Olympic Games, RFID chips will be embedded in more than 16 million tickets. The technology for the RFID chips was developed by China’s leading engineering university, Tsinghua, and will allow tickets to be identifiable from five meters away.

Great news for thieves, no tangible benefit for anyone else...

I do not understand how this is good news for thieves?  If they steal tickets I assume the RFID would render the stolen tickets worthless as they could be deleted from the system.
