A lot of critics have been making the case that BlackBerry has increasingly become the also ran to Apple but with the introduction of this tablet it could make inroads.

The challenge for RIM is two-fold - making development on the BlackBerry platform as elegant as it is on the Apple platform. And improving the user experience for downloading apps from the BlackBerry app store which is, frankly, clunky.

The BlackBerry PlayBook will be shipped to developers and some corporate customers in October and will be available for sale in 2011.

There is no word on the price of the new RIM BlackBerry Playbook.
