Rupert Murdoch: Websites and Search Engines Need to Pay for News
Rupert Murdoch said it is time for search engines and websites to start paying for news. Murdoch, owner of media giant News Corporation, had announced in August his plan to charge readers by the end of the year.
Murdoch said "the aggregators and plagiarists will soon have to pay a price for the co-opting of our content" in the World Media Summit in Beijing. By aggregators and plagiarists, he meant the websites people actually visit for news, like Google and Yahoo.
Tom Curley from Associated Press said news provides were "exploited", and content creators had been "too slow to react to the free exploitation of news by third parties without input or permission."
"Crowd-sourcing web services such as Wikipedia, YouTube and Facebook, have become preferred customer destinations for breaking news, displacing websites of traditional news publishers," he added.
Murdoch's News Corporation suffered a net loss of $3.4 billion this year. Associated Press is only expecting $700 million in revenue this year down from $748 million.

Murdoch is going up against, Google, Bing (Microsoft), Reuters, Yahoo etc - it will be an interesting fight.
Though, my personal opinion is that the Murdoch empire should be nationalised in each country and sold off to the lowest bidder - for that is what he has done with 'News'. Yes, that includes all his satellite business.
Murdoch has ruined news, news gathering and TV. He also owns Fox.
