SC does this kind of thing all the time (at least I have heard of it earlier this year from a colleague who lives down there, and he gave me the impression that it happened before - almost regularly) - right before schools and colleges going back this year, they had a tax free holiday applying to:
* Clothing
* Accessories
* Footwear
* School supplies
* Computers
* Computer equipment
Just google "south carolina tax holiday" or visit here: http://singleparents.about.com/od/taxfreeholidays/qt/SC.htm
It seems they have a way of listening to the needs/wants of their citizen - ie, the population needs/wants cheaper XXXXXX - the government cuts them a break.
If there wasn't big demand spike for guns at the moment for fear of what Obama will reimpose an assault weapon ban, people would not be out buying all the weaponry and ammunition they could get their hands on.

Its great that at least one state listens to the wants of its citizens. Great program, hope it is something that spreads to other states. Any tax releif is a good thing!

You guys freak out when there is anything to do with guns. So what. I guess you all forgot the bad guys dont buy there guns legally. Only an extremely small percentage do, and those are usually first time offenders. Quit the OMG reactions please, go shoot a gun, they are fun, intricately designed, and not as scary as you think. This is typical of people who have never shot a gun, much like old people hate computers, alot of young people think they are just too complex and dangerous. Ive been raised around them since I was 3, ive shot them since I was 5 and never managed to shoot some innocent person. Its not luck, its a proper respect for the tool you are using, much like some dumbass on a cell phone while there driving, or drinking and driving. Commen sense should be applied.
1. Don't point a gun at anything you do not intend to destroy.
2. Always assume a gun is loaded, and check for yourself.
Check out the NRA.com website for a complete saftey list. Gun nuts methodically preach these rules, its like the unspoken law amongst us. Just because some dumb jerk does somthing stupid does not mean others are just as moronic.
There is no gun show loop hole, everyone has to pass background checks. It is the law. The supposed loop-hole is the private party transfers. Private parties are not obligated to conduct these checks if selling to a family member or friend. There are two big sides to this, and there are reasons to do it, and reasons not to do it. There are alot of what-if's involved here, I leave it to you to judge. However, from all the obvious anti-gun tv shows, rhetoric, and demeanor I will not support any more infringments upon our 2nd amendment. If you can't take guns away, limit them to death until its too much of a hassle or too expensive to shoot them, then who will care? The government is already supporting a ban on Lead bullets which make up most of the industry, the alternatives are much more expensive. OH wait, the government will give you coupons or vouchers? What better way to know who has guns? If you can't register them, track the bullets!! I dunno, seems fishy to me. My .02 cents anyway, have a great day people!
