Shuttle Discovery Up For Sale By NASA For $28 Million
NASA is selling Space Shuttle Discovery for $28 million. Apparently, it is a bargain because originally the shuttle was supposed to go for $42, a charge for preparing the shuttle and delivering it via Boeing 747 aircraft carrier. But, that is not it. Allegedly, NASA is throwing in an extra shuttle engine for free with the purchase of the scrapped shuttle.
Discovery has been in operation since 1984 and is now the oldest orbiter in service. NASA is retiring its shuttle program by the end of 2010, so a garage sale is evidently in order. Discovery's last mission (STS-133) is scheduled for September 16, 2010. Earlier this month, it was reported that one of the bidders for the aged shuttle was Washington's National Air and Space Museum that already has space shuttle Enterprise as part of its exhibit.
NASA has been in the news lately with some very bizarre headlines. Just last week, cocaine was found in a restricted area of Kennedy Space Center. Ironically, trace amounts of the drug were found in the area where space shuttle Discovery was undergoing maintenance. An investigation is now pending.
Let's just be thankful NASA did not follow Conan O'Brien's example and did not put the shuttle up for sale on Craigslist.

I like the Idea of having my own Space shuttle, but at that price and knowing all the problem this model has, I suppose not. :)
