This is one of those "Oh Crap!!!" moments, when you realize that something you (me in this case) have been looking at for months (solar panels, both hard and flexible) coul have resulted in something like this being your disign.
Congrats to Mr. Yates and success to him and his!

Beautiful design! Although I do not own a yacht yet I have a feeling this table might cost almost as much? What is the price? In other words how long will it take to pay off all this "free energy"?

My Best Guess: if you are over 35 you might want to wait till this shows up at WalMart. :)

Ok, I would have posted sooner but I just stopped laughing. Is everyone sitting down? Good. The cost of this table? The one that will allow you to charge or run a cell phone or laptop for “FREE”? Still sitting? $14,000.00. Yes, you read that correctly. No, I didn't slip a decimal point or two.
It costs FOURTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS!
It is a stylish piece if you like the look of solar pannels but that is a matter of personal taste which is beyond the scope of this post. One really has to ask themselves....how many hours of "free electricity" would a would-be buyer have to consume to pay for the "investment" in this solar furniture?
Now I understand, Mikasi, why you didn't want to post the price when I inquired. If, as you guess, that one must be under 35 to appreciate this mashup of solar panels and steel then I fear for the future of that generation. It is a table made from a solar panel. Who needs this? Solar panels can be had and installed for a fraction of the cost of this device producing more power than this table leaving the buyer with about $13,000.00.
And although I have quite expensive tastes myself I am pretty sure you can get a kick-ass table for less than that. What’s next? Wind powered sofas?

HAHAHA, Hilarious EastRay, you made my day. The cost, I bet will drop dramatically as competition increases. As for technology it was only a scant few years ago, LCD and Plasma TVs were like 3 to 5 grans, and now they can be had for a song under a grand, I would think this will drop as well, as consumers dont have that kind of green laying around, regardless how much it saves the planet.
Thanks for posting the price EastVan

I suggest you stop guessing it exposes your narrow mind. What the f*ck does someone's age have to do with the price?
at 15:15 on April 19th, 2008
Boy who pissed in your Cornflakes this morning Eastvan?
at 15:27 on April 19th, 2008
Sorry Barry. I was wondering what that bitter taste was this morning. I asked a simple question as the price is not revealed on the web site. What I got back was a thinly veiled attack on my age.

Actually the cost is not out of line with similar pieces in the high end market. I don't think the point is to save money on your energy costs. That argument is analagous to saying the point of a painting is to save money on house paint.

Interesting. I was not aware that the solar-powered table market was mature enough for competition.
at 20:11 on April 22nd, 2008
All the more reason that these prices could be sustained although I suspect there will be copycats on the solar features.

I am sure as the Chinese outside the Bejing Stadium are hawking counterfeiting Bejing Olympic regalia, Pins, hats, bags, shoes, that once word of this Solar board hits their noses, they will be busy knocking of solar table Cheapo copies for the masses at WalMart prices, say by the fall in time for Christmas, the Smiley Face may be the law in lowering prices, but as laws go, pretty much anything goes over there and our governments inability to stop counterfeits over here. Certainly makes some inventors say it is not worth getting out of bed in the morning anymore.

Hey I wish I was 35 again hahahahaha

i covered this a bit at happyfrog.ca EPIC 2008: Show Notebook from Expo Floor, ergo:
Solar powered lounging
Finally, a solar-powered lounge table for the wealthy green geek in your life. This device was super-design-y and clearly meant as a fancy new toy for the high rollers.
It's so sharp and spacey looking, the mainstream media will totally eat this up. In fact, Micheal Tippet of Now Public wrote a blurb about table made by Intelligent Forms who make (much thriftier) eco-cool lap-top pillows for your lap.
