Sony recalls 100,000 batteries

100,000 Sony Lithium-Ion batteries that are used in Hewlett-Packard, Toshiba and Dell notebook computers are being recalled, with a prediction that about 35,000 of these batteries came from the US.

Some details about these batteries:

They were sold at the same time as the batteries involved in the widescale 2006 Sony battery recall.

These batteries can “overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.”

The damage so far: “There have been 19 reports of the batteries overheating, including 17 reports of flames/fire (10 resulting in minor property damage). Two consumers experienced minor burns.”

- HP (accounting for some 32,000 of the 35,000 sold in the US)
HP Pavilion: dv1000, dv8000 and zd8000
Compaq Presario: v2000 and v2400
HP Compaq: nc6110, nc6120, nc6140, nc6220, nc6230,
nx4800, nx4820, nx6110, nx6120, nx9600
- Toshiba (about 3,000)
Satellite: A70/A75, P30/P5, M30X/M35X, M50/M55
Tecra: A3, A5, S2
- Dell (about 150)
