Japan`s Sony corporationhas launched a voluantry recall of 438000 Vaio portable computers, citing a potential hazard that could cause the machinses to overheat or possibly burn the user. It is one of the biggestcomputer recall since 2006 when Dell inc recalled 4.1 million notebook computer batteries because they cold overheat and catch fire.

Sony received 15 reports of overheating, including one customer who suffered minor burn, the U.S.A consumer product saftey commission said.

the flaw in sony`s vgn-tz100\200\300\2000 series computer  is related to "irregularly positioned wires near the computers hinge and/or dislodged screw inside the hinge" that can cause ashort circuit and overheat, the agency said.

Sony has been dogged in recent years by recall of laptop batteries amid concerns they would overheat and catch fire.In 2006 Pc makers recalled more than 8 million sony batteries.

Sony declined to comment on potential cost it will incur to repair the computer.

shares of Sony trading in US dipped 2.4% to $36.75 on Newyork stock exchange on thursday afternoon.The share are down more than 30% so far this year.
