Spoofcard: Ali Wise Charged Over Voicemail Stalking
Ali Wise, socialite and former publicity director for Dolce and Gabbana, was charged with computer trespassing, eavesdropping, computer tampering, and stalking, using a service called Spoofcard to hack into the voicemail accounts of the girlfriends of her ex-boyfriends, listening to the messages and deleting the ones she didn't like. Ali Wise, with the help of Spoofcard, si going for the title of craziest ex-girlfriend of all time. Of all time. It's no joke, though: worst case scenario, she faces four years in prison.
Look at what Ali Wise did to designer Nina Freudenberger, who dated Ali Wise's ex Josh Deutsch:
Freudenberger declined to speak to The Post yesterday. But authorities say Wise hacked into her voice mails 337 times, listening in and zapping messages at will.
It's a nightmare, because who would believe you when you told them you didn't return their call or make that appointment because your messages were surreptitiously deleted by a jealous, tech-savvy fashion publicist? The crime's unlikely nature is what makes it deadly (socially).
Several sits, such as mediabistro, have criticized the New York Post for discussing the details of how Spoofcard works, but it's naïve to blame the Post here. Spoofcard has been around for ages, and bad guys totally know about it: sticking your head in the sand won't prevent black-hat types from using it.
How, precisely, is it better for you not to know about a security risk to your voicemail?
Typically, no password is required to get the messages.
The rogue callers can then listen to the other person's messages and even delete them.
Some people use the system for pranks, calling boyfriends or mothers under another number to fool them.
Yeah, right. The only real uses of a service like Spoofcard would be stalking and cracking. Also, bear in mind that a true hacker will be far more clever than Ali Wise, and will not delete messages en masse: the point, after all, is to keep your presence invisible.

"Several sits, such as mediabistro, have criticized the New York Post for discussing the details of how Spoofcard works..."
Black hats types most probably keep a very low profile. Just search for "hacking for beginners" would bring up a lot of stuff. People like Ali Wise are known as "script kiddies" or eqivalent in the hacker's world. Who dont put much effort to do the actual work, but just use the readily available "tools" made by the real guys.
But they can be so much menace at times, as in this case.

If you use this app in the right way it can be lots of fun! Unfortunately some people don't know how to behave.
