Stalkdaily.com: Don't Let It Infect Your Twitter Account!

A great many Twitter users found their accounts infected by a spam-bot called stalkdaily. Don't be one of them!

I'm not 100% sure how the mechanics of this infection work, but it seems that visiting the site mentioned (but not linked!) above is enough to get the ball rolling.  (Updated to add: a quick rundown of how the exploit worked)

First of all, don't visit stalkdaily.com. (Even the URL sounds sketchy). Second, check your own outgoing Twitter stream. If your Twitter account is sending out spam regarding stalkdaily, here's how to disinfect it:

1. Clear cache and cookies from the browsers in which you use Twitter.

2. Log out of any 3rd-party Twitter apps (twhirl, Tweetdeck, Twitteriffic, etc).

3. Change your password via Twitter.com/(your username).

4. Log back in (and restart any 3rd party apps if you want, re-logging in with the new password).

Meanwhile, the initial spamming profile has been deleted.

The above steps can be found all over the web now; I first found them via @twittercism at Twittercism.com. Thanks, Zaibatsu, for the heads-up.

The hole through the exploit worked has been closed, but there are probably still residual infected accounts out there... be malware aware! ( <-- That should totally be one of those public safety adverts)
