Starbucks has recalled 530,000 Barista Blade coffee grinders, which could turn themselves on during cleaning, or fail to turn off.

So far, three users have reported hand lacerations which occurred as they cleaned their (Decepticon) coffee grinders, which were sold at Starbucks and Seattle's Best from 2002 to 2009.

This recall affects the following SKU numbers:

  • 171884
  • 195234
  • 195235
  • 220623
  • 220624
  • 242275
  • 344476
  • 454482
  • 474881

If you have one of these machines, call Starbucks for a free replacement at 866-276-2950.

Hazard: The grinder can fail to turn off or can turn on unexpectedly, posing a laceration hazard to consumers.
The grinders came in various colors including green, pink, orange, teal, red, olive, black, brown and also in a stainless-steel finish, and featured Starbucks or Seattle's Best logos, the statement said.
Made by Tsann Kuen (Zhangzhou) Enterprises of China, the grinders were sold in Starbucks and Seattle’s Best coffee stores nationwide from March 2002 through March 2009 for about $30.

corky huss

I own a stainless-steel model EL20 , listed 5T00, E150771 purchased from Starbucks sometime in 2004 or 2005 in Colorado.  Should I not be worried about this one?
