Student Fees: REC Pass - "Give us back our money!"
The biggest problem students deal with would be financial. Many students’ paychecks are going straight to their tuition fees or paying off their dept by paying their school fees. Have you ever read the fine print? Recreational and Athletic, student activity, Student Service and U-Pass are all part of the student fees. Have you ever realized that we have to pay for all of these undergraduate items and we can’t opt out of it? The recreational and athletic fee is one that we should be able to opt out of. Exercise is a very important part of our university life, keeping our lives balanced and healthy. Making us pay for this pass may be a positive push in forcing people in participating in physical activities. However, with the amount of schoolwork we are loaded with and while having a job, there isn’t enough time to have recreational exercise. From personal experience and from communicating with my peers we have said that “it’s a waste of money, and we don’t have time to go”. We should be able to have to opportunity to decide if we would want to pay for this fee or not because each student has different needs and personal activities. This decision should not be left up to SFU committee, these problems do not concern them. If they are on the committee they probably have the money to waste on a possible recreational and activities pass. Students have to pay for this pass every semester and we’re all sick of the money we are wasting.
