Many of the most popular cell phone carriers, including T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T and Verizon, have waived fees for the earthquake stricken Japan, announced today and yesterday (March 14th).

The waived fee is effective for those calling or texting either to or from Japan, seemingly as an act of relief for those in the country or with contacts impacted by the disaster. The exact offer differs depending on the carrier.

T-Mobile allows calling and texting to Japan without charge through March 31, 2011.

Sprint and Verizon have retroactively waived fees for calls and text messages to Japan starting March 11, 2011 and through April 10, 2011.

AT&T, who started this trend, is also retroactively waiving fees from a period of March 11, 2011, through March 31, 2011.

Most of the mobile carriers will also waive fees for text donations sent to organization set up to send relief to Japan.
