In a surprise twist the United States Department of Justice is suing AT&T in a bid to stop the merger between it and T-Mobile. The merger would have consolidated the mobile market in the US into three major players = AT&T, Sprint and Verizon.

The move is a surprise as typically a compromise is reached between the government and the companies. This means that compromise failed and now the government is trying to block the merger from happening.

If AT&T still wants the merger to happen they will now either have to go to court or offer up a new deal to try and settle whatever problems the original might have had. According to a anti-trust lawyer = its unlikely that a new deal can be reached to settle the original problem. This means either AT&T has to give up or do a long and hard battle in court to see the merger take place.
