How Hipsters Date Blogger Tag Brum Comes Clean After Breakup Text

Brazilian blogger Tag Brum is the man behind How Hipsters Date, that plaid-themed Tumblr blog that chronicles the misadventures of a once-anonymous newbie to the Williamsburg dating scene. Recently, Tag Brum got the most epic of self-involved breakup text messages, and it sparked an online debate regarding whether or not it was fake.

Tag Brum revealed himself to the Village Voice, swearing that the text was all-too-real. Anyone who has spent any time in Brooklyn's Williamsburg or Greenpoint neighborhoods will not find the text to be all that shocking, however, as this sort of attitude is endemic amongst New York residents (all from out-of-state) who drive up rental prices in once-industrial neighborhoods and take themselves very, very seriously.

Self-Important Breakup Text

The text of the breakup message reads, "I didn't mean to ignore your texts or make you believe I was interested, but unavailable. I'm very confused, but I know I can't be in a relationship with someone less cultured than I am. I really thought you were more worldly, but I think it was an honest mistake."

Yikes.

Why protect your identity? (Though, by request, we absolutely will)
[My original anonymity] was a joke. It's not like I have a reputation to preserve or anything. I don't think I'll get to hang out with anyone else after this though. My name is Tag Brum.
What was your initial reaction to that text?
I laughed and thought: "yeah, this will be on the Internets."

The original entry has been reblogged to the point where it may actually become threadbare.

i feel as though there should also be a “i’m really busy with my music right now…”
