Tanker Ships Waiting Offshore After Ike by John Astad

A few miles south of Galveston Island, dozens of tanker and cargo ships are waiting offshore in the Gulf of Mexico to enter the Ports of Houston, Galveston, and Texas City. The United States Coast Guard is working overtime to restore the navigational buoys along the the shipping channels. Hurricane Ike damaged or destroyed  over 90 percent of the navigational aids which guided vessels into the busiest ports in the United States.
