(Glendale, CA - Tea Party)

Today, April 15, 2009 … a day when all Americans are supposed to have their taxes filed with the Internal Revenue Service (headed by Timothy Geithner – a man who was allowed to cheat/then pay-up on his taxes), 750 gatherings of citizens are scheduled throughout the nation and not one mention on the front pages of Main Stream Media newspapers.

Examples:

Boston Globe Front Page

The Los Angeles Times Front Page

Code Pink, Cindy Sheehan, A Day Without An Immigrant, Million Man March, and other demonstrations that will have way less people showing up to attend to show support in getting a message of displeasure out routinely get front page spreads and advance information as to the event(s) and what the issues of protest are about from the MSM jungle drumbeat.

This tea party movement has had no such 4th Estate involvement.

A brief history excerpted and edited from Michelle Malkin –

A Tax Day Tea Party cheat sheet: How it all started

By Michelle Malkin • April 15, 2009 08:14 AM

For the Johnny-Come-Latelys in the MSM who will be dispatched by their editors to file obligatory stories about the hundreds of Tax Day Tea Party protests across the country today, here is a cheat sheet to get you up to speed.

Feb. 15: Keli Carender, who blogs as “Liberty Belle” spread the word about a grass-roots protest she was organizing in Seattle to raise her voice against the passage of the trillion-dollar stimulus/porkulus/Generational Theft Act of 2009. It’s the first time she had ever jumped into political organizing of any kind. She is not affiliated with any “corporate lobbyist” or think tank or national taxpayers’ organization. She’s a young conservative mom who blogs. Amazingly, she turned around the event in a few days all on her own by reaching out on the Internet, to her local talk station, and to anyone who would listen.

Feb. 16: An energetic crowd of about 100 people came downtown to lambaste the Chicken Little process and the lard-up of the stimulus bill:

Word of the Seattle protest spread across the blogosphere. Readers suggested there should be a Denver protest on Feb. 17 to greet President Obama for the porkulus signing. Separately, the local chapter of Americans for Prosperity was already working to put something together on the fly. I met the head of the state AFP for the first time on the steps of the Capitol. No conspiracy here, tinfoil hatters. It was a union of like minds in an impromptu show of outrage against the legislation-without-deliberation process in Washington. Also there: Jon Caldara of the libertarian Independence Institute on one end of the spectrum and Tom Tancredo on the strict immigration enforcement end (hundreds of the protesters were mad about the absence of E-Verify standards for the stimulus funding):

On Feb. 18, 500 fed-up taxpayers showed up in Mesa, AZ to oppose President Obama’s campaign for massive expansions of the government mortgage entitlement and to mock what SC Gov. Mark Sanford rightly called savior-based economics. No top-down organization. Just the effort of local talk radio station KFYI. No Beltway GOP involvement. Zero national media coverage.

On Feb. 19, reader Amanda Grosserode e-mailed that she was organizing a tax revolt protest in Overland Park, KS the following weekend. More than 400 people showed up in freezing weather to protest Rep. Dennis Moore’s vote for the bill. Glenn Reynolds did the reporting the MSM didn’t do.

On Feb. 19, CNBC’s Rick Santelli issued his now-famous “Tea Party” call — prompted, many people forget, by Obama’s mortgage entitlement expansion plans (proposals I’ve protested whether from Democrats or moron Republicans):
----
On Feb. 21, the grass-roots Internet group, Top Conservatives on Twitter, founded by Michael Patrick Leahy and powered by Rob Neppell, announced “simultaneous local tea parties around the country, beginning in Chicago, and including Washington DC, Fayetteville NC, San Diego CA, Omaha Nebraska, and dozens of other locations”.
----
And along the way, detractors have fumbled and bumbled over how to discredit the Tea Party organizers — first blaming a cabal tied to CNBC, then jeering at the amateurishness of the participants before crying “astroturf,” then claiming the events were “financed by Fox News” or (fill-in-the-blank) conservative conspiracy, then smearing the protesters as crazed gun nuts (FNC’s Bob Beckel) and racists (FNC’s Geraldo Rivera).

Wouldn’t it be refreshing if MSM coverage refrained from parroting all the lazy, groundless, uninformed canards and reported the simple truth?

Again, large gatherings of Americans - NOT just Republicans, NOT just Democrats – are gathering in over 750 cities throughout the United States, and in most cases, Politicians have been dis-invited. Pretty much a definition of GRASS ROOTS, and all of this activity after the Department of Homeland Security has labeled this type of activity as part of the list of recruitment threats to Radical Right-Wing political activity and terrorism.

UPDATE - Tea Party - Glendale, California - USA

The event was a great success for a small town gathering. The Television News Media was out in force with channels KCBS 2, KTLA 5, KCAL 9, and KTTV 11 on the ground with trucks and crews to do remotes.

The crowd swelled to about 400 to 500 people, cars that passed by, honked in support, and only people in Government who pledged to support the constitution, vote only on legislation they had read, and vote to lower the profile of Government and it's spending, were allowed to talk from the podium.

Those that had TEXT capability on their phones were given instructions on how to instantly register for Tea Party action events and communications.

This event was not the largest, but it was probably one of the best covered given the amount of TV Media that were able to make an appearance. This was probably due to the fact that it was the closest registered event on Twitter's TCOT to the local studios.

PS - At no time did community organizers from ACORN and other federally subsidized action committees reveal themselves to the crowd to agitate the proceedings.

Tea Party Event tally as of the beginning of day April 28, 2009 - (Pajamas Media):

Number of Events: 1,003
Overall Attendance:
935,334

New Orleans' Times-Picayune has a story today, with many locals warning that ACORN will be at the Tea Parties too, in fact many ACORNs already seemed to be commenting.

A front page story?

Code Pink, Cindy Sheehan, and Million Man March (only 10's of thousands of people showed up) all got front page coverage!

750+ cities is the latest count on places where hundreds (in some cases, thousands) of people will gather to protest the Stimulus Bill that was passed by congress, the mass printing of money (one-trillion dollars at latest count), and the 3.6 Trillion dollar budget proposal just to name a few issues at hand.

Where is the front page coverage?

There is none and you won't see it.  I just checked the websites of the three major Canadian Television networks and it's not even mentioned.  Instead of making assumptions that this is an event organized by lobbyists, the GOP and FOX News, the main stream media would have been well served to cover these events and at least get to the bottom of it.

The attitude of the main stream media just confirms their bias.

I would stage a protest outside 10 Downing Street, London.

For that's where the plan was made to help solve the financial meltdown problem. Both elitist politicians Bush and Obama agreed to Gordon Brown's plan it passed from one administration to another.

Wake up American's "Tea Parties" will not stop the new world order taking over your nation becoming as Social Democratically as the EU.

The elite political have just taken one more stepping stone on taking over the reigns of the capitalistic controllers. The so called free world is nearly totally controlled by the political elite and its the dawn of their new world order.

Me! oh I am of to the beach for a swim and to sink a few cold ones. I out of this rat race and non of the world problems are going to get me stressed up. my life has been messed up by these elite greedy power mongers on many occasion.

I have even stood on the firing line as cannon fodder as a patriotic serviceman. I have become much wiser in my autumn years I was just another indoctrinated idiot of whom believed in the crap I was fed.

Wake up america!

Thanks for the words and coverage. This was the first right wing event I have ever shot pictures of (in Chicago) and I have to say I was impressed with the turnout and organization. However, there are a couple of things that need be said about it -

  • Many of the attendees had a memory lapse. Many blamed Obama for this mess. The least they could have done is give a tip of the hat to the prior administration as the program and acronym TARP was its baby.
  • Complaints at these events (and similarly at the anti war events) fail to dwell on the problems' bigger picture - the issues that pound us most severely spill across party lines. You can't blame the Dems for this financial crisis and you can't blame the Repubs for the war. There is plenty of responsibility and blame to go round.
  • Most of us (myself included) have not watched our representatives closely or held them to account. Many of them - and you can name big names on both sides of the aisle - have gone from regulating an industry to lobbying for it after losing an election or choosing not to run again. Elected office should not be a resume stuffer used to secure a cushy position with an industry you supposedly oversaw.
  • This event had a PR firm. There is nothing wrong or immoral in this. In fact I would say it worked really, really well. I have just never run into that at any left wing event and was surprised by it.
  • Finally, you complained that the MSM did not alert people to this ahead of time. Based on experience going back to the late 80's you may well be right. But I don't think the media has given a break to the left on this. When I want to know about a coming lefty march I know the MSM  doesn't care about this type of event. I find out about rallies mostly from sponsor's websites or Democracy Now. Judging from the turnout in Chicago, I would say that your people did incredibly well publicizing without the help of MSM.

I believe that some are not forgetting, or having a memory lapse ... just living life in the present. Afterall, it was under this President that people who gather as we all had done yesterday, are targets for recruitment into some Radical, Right-Wing Terrorist Group!

Actually, according to the Department of Homeland Security memo that was released two days ago, anyone who might disagree with the direction this administration plans on taking this country, is either a target for recruitment or actually IS a terrorist under their definition that was laid out ... WITHOUT any evidence!

I joke that this 44th Presidency is Carter's Second Term ... but really, this may be Bush's Third Term - Economically - on steroids. McCain was not supported because moderates and Catholics had decided to take Obama at his word and campaign "definitive self" ... NOT the back benching - "PRESENT" voting - Radical socialist agenda supporting - Teleprompter reading - Chicago POL - with NO executive or business experience, that the man, in all truthfulness, is.

One Question: Where is the  - - - TRANSPARENCY? Never happened, and I hate to say, probably never will.

It was an enjoyable experience to attend and record one of these gatherings.

This wasn't a party-affliated event.  This was Americans uniteing on common grounds. In case you haven't realized, our nation's Constitutional liberties are being aggressively threatened.  The Bush administration set it up, and Obama's is trying to apply the "set ups".   Clinton sold us out to China, eroded our military defenses to almost nothing, and disgraced our Nation with his immoral conduct; Bush used 9/11 to utterly gut our freedoms; and Obama is moving to slam America into socialism while further degrading our international status as a "super"power to prepare taking us into a NWO.  However, on the 15th (TAX DAY) Americans said ENOUGH.

Who was the PR firm?

No, the Tea Parties are a warm-up activity for networking and the formation of an identity.

Now will come harder work. The new definition of being a nation, ending this exploitation by China and Wall Street and the libs, all of whom have one thing in common: they oppose our sovereignty as a nation.

So... don't complain that the corporate media doesn't do your advertising for you. It takes money to get them on board.

Back in the 60s it was word-of-mouth and fliers and posters, still is.

How many news stories about Woodstock before it happened? none.

Michelle Malkin has it about right.  She was involved in a Denver protest with pork for the named porklulus bill.  TCOT started talking about doing something following.  I was on a few of those early conference calls.  Taking credit for the start is not important unless folks demand they were first.  What happened and not discouraged where many folks jumping on the band wagon.  That is good and the outcome would not be what it was on April 15 if Newt's American Solutions, The 912 project and others didn't get involved.  I know in SC the coordinator for Columbia was a Member of the 912 project not TCOT.

I did like the PR strategy first it was disorganized right wing nuts then it was big business and Astro-Turf PR groups.  Can't have it both ways... an astro-turf organization would not have a bunch of people approaching the Tea Party issue from different angles.  They would all be the same with national speakers at every site, speaking the same talking points, with much better printed signs.

The Speaker and others are not used to Conservatives protesting as they are usually like herding cats.  They have to be very upset to come to a protest and speak out.  I wonder why they are so upset?  maybe it is because president Obama came on with a Change government agenda and a anti-Bush motivator.  So far it looks like he has out spent Bush.  He is controlling more public companies, he has defended the patriot act in court.  he has not kept his promises to go line by line on legislation.  He has not posted the bill on the internet for days but hours.   To the right he looks socialist... to the Left he isn't left enough.  He has himself pinned down in a corner in the first 100 days of his administration.

Here is his plan.  Get as much done in the shortest time possible, then move back to the middle for election time by signing a few GOP led bills.  The change we can expect is that Pres Obama knows how to dance from the left to the right just as he did during the primaries and the general election.  The guy is a politician like everyone else and has sold the country a bill of goods.  His government trickle down economics will never make it passed the new lines of bureaucrats he is establishing, the the poor will be in the same condition or worse then when Bush was president.

You spreak of Carters second term... you have that right.
