TEAMWORK IN IT POLICY DEVELOPMENT WITH COBIT TRAINING
Do you know that many enterprises today are using a Buddhist monastery way of governance? In a monastery there are no specified leaders but yes, seniors are given their due respect. All monks share daily work and decision making, organising themselves in small cooperative teams. The elder monks also do the daily manual labour alongside the new members. Does it not remind you the way you govern IT department in your business. Small teams are made and given their assignment for the day. The team members work towards a common goal. COBIT training is all about IT policy development to ensure that correct IT procedures are followed.
In today’s business world the organisational patterns on the lines of monasteries are more for economic reasons than philosophical reasons. You will agree with the statement of Amanda Fox, Senior Vice President of an executive search firm in Texas when she says that “economic layoffs have pared away the layers of middle level management, leaving many workers to mange for themselves in self-directed leadership teams.”Would you not like to elevate yourself from middle level management to a higher level? If response is in affirmative then COBIT Foundation training is the course you should enrol for. It will train you to design an IT framework which will act as a toolset for IT governance.
These types of leadership teams encourage flexibility. Instead of staying in one position a worker can do many roles. In a baseball game the position of every player is fixed whereas in a basket ball game the whole team moves forward while attacking and retreats together while defending. In IT field flexibility is a necessity. You will do well to adopt a basketball game approach whilst undertaking IT policy development for your organisation. COBIT certification will empower you for that role.
Combining the talents and insights of your team you will be able to be able to bridge the gap between technical requirements and quality requirements which a COBIT course will teach you.
People still expect to be led. They want someone who can take responsibility on his shoulders. People still want a leader who can take decisions otherwise they accuse him of weakness and waffling. The idea of shared governance may not be fully popular as yet but there is no doubt that it is economical. As a COBIT certification holder you will have to balance between the two styles of governance. The answer perhaps lies in being decisive about the goal, and selecting a team of talented IT professionals and then trusting them to accomplish the job. That means not micromanaging your team. That is the kind of leader you will become with COBIT training.
Select your team carefully, define the role of each and still allow them enough freedom to run with the ball and do the required basket( goal). Whether you are strategising, designing, developing or operating an IT policy as a COBIT certification holder will do well to imagine yourself as a conductor of an orchestra and direct your team to produce the symphony of IT dynamism which will maximise your profits .
