Telus Jacks Up Monthly Data Charge 850%
In an unpublicized move on July 18th, Telus Mobility changed the pre-paid Data20 plan from including 250MB per month to only including 100MB per month for $20/month. It also changed the overage charges from $3/MB to $1/MB. If a user wanted to use the same 250MB that they used to have, they would need to spend $170/month instead of the $20/month they previously spent. This is an 850% increase!
The old Data20(250MB) plan is grandfathered so that if users keep paying for it, it will remain - but new users and those who mistakenly let their plan lapse are in for a shock!
In my case, my daughter just got a Telus phone in early July and Telus set up the Data20 plan incorrectly so that it did not properly renew after one month. She then lost the Data20(250MB) plan due to Telus' error. Telus support has tried unsuccessfully to add the plan back. At this time, a complaint has been lodged with CCTS (Commission for complaints for telecommunications services).
