The Mazda Kiyora concept, which has not been seen since the 2008 Paris Auto Show, will be rolled out again at Tokyo. The Kiyora was primarily a design study in Paris, but in its latest incarnation it is the platform carrying the new Sky-G engine and Sky-Drive transmission. /// The Sky-G technology has recently been revamped and put on a diet to achieve greater economy from a direct-fuel-injection 1.3-liter 4-cylinder engine (that could come to America in the Ford Fiesta-based Mazda 2). The version in the Kiyora is 220 pounds lighter. /// Sky-Drive is a 6-speed automatic transmission with a lockup clutch that will allows for much faster shifts. /// All these ingredients flesh out a recipe for 75 miles per gallon fuel economy. /// The Kiyora, a Japanese word that translates to something equivalent to “clean and pure,” has a lot of curb appeal, but it is unlikely to ever reach production in anything near its current form.
