Tommy Jordan Video: Dad Shoots Daughter's Laptop
Tommy Jordan, a father from Albermarle, North Carolina, is making national headlines after making a video in response to his 15-year-old daughter's disrespectful Facebook post bashing her parents about the chores she had to do.
Jordan, who works in IT, found his daughter's Facebook post when he logged on to her computer to give it a software update. Using Facebook's privacy settings, she hid the post from both of her parents.
The post contained a rant of Jordan's daughter, Hannah, complaining about all the chores she had to do, claiming she did more chores than their cleaning lady.
In the video, Jordan says “since you want to hide it from everyone, I’m going to share it with everybody.”
“Maybe a few kids can take something away from this… If you’re so disrespectful to your parents and yourself as to post this kind of thing on Facebook, you’re deserving of some tough love. Today, my daughter is getting a dose of tough love,” Jordan said in the video description on YouTube.
Jordan then takes the camera and shows the girl’s laptop lying on the ground.
“That right there is your laptop,” the father said while pointing the camera at the laptop. “This right here is my .45,” he says, moving a pistol into the frame.
Jordan then cocks the weapon and shoots nine exploding hollow-point rounds into the laptop.
The local Fox news channel, Fox WGHP 8, tried to contact Jordan, but he refused to make a comment. However, he did write a Facebook post in response to them.
Tommy reminds me of a cross between a redneck and geek but he puts a guilt trip so bad on me that I almost want to pay him for the $130 software.

There are multiple lessons here. If someone would have taken her facebook post the wrong way they may have contacted authorities informing them of a child being exploited by the parents. Mr. Jordan would not have known anything till law enforcement officers came to his house knocking at his door. Mr. Jordan may have found himself in cuffs trying to explain these allegations; he would have been guilty till he could prove himself innocent.There was a confusion, on his daughter's part, between Rights and Privileges. His daughter has a right to have food, shelter, and to be cared for. You have the right to be treated with respect and dignity; there's more but you get my jest. Everything else is a privilege. The computer, cell phone, soft ware were all privileges that she took for granted. We as humans tend to do that. We pay for the privilege to own a car by making the payments, insurance, and a license. We pay for the privilege of owning a home by making mortgage payments, property taxes, and insurance. If we don't then we can't have them.His daughter posted something very embarrassing to him, his current and possibly his ex-wife. You can tell he had thought about what to do carefully. Some parents may have reacted instantly with anger and something else could have ensued. He decided to pay his daughter in kind so she could feel the embarrassment and humiliation she had caused for the world to see. Some may disagree but now she felt the same embarrassment and may have gotten a lesson from this. She, and all of us, must realize that there are consequences to the choices we make; some people are good enough to avoid them. She tried to avoid the consequences by trying to hide the video but it did not work.He used the pistol for emphasis. Taking a hammer to it may not have worked as it could have portrayed him as a violent individual that requires a straightjacket. Selling the computer on ebay would not have worked either as it would not have had the same humiliating effect. I was raised that if I did something wrong or embarrassing in public that's where I paid for it. I am better for it and that's the way my kid was raised and he's a good and decent man. People and kids keep pushing parents and others to the limit with what they should be entitled to. No one has given me anything but a chance to prove my self; everything else I have worked for.Remember the wrong you do as sooner or later you may have to account for it. Choose wisely.

in cuffs for what .??he was trying to show his daughter that it's not right to down grade her parents...thats what is wrongwith this country now people not standing up their spoiled bratty kids..and yes i have some in my family but i can say personally i corrected my kids and the respect me for it..and we all get along just great hang in there TOMMY...pop---

Owning a house and car is a privilege. Owning all those other things a privilege. Why is owning a gun a right? More specificly a handgun. I'm with this father all the way till the gun comes out.

Every being has a natural right to defend themselves, their property and their loved ones. The founders of this great nation recognized that right and included it in the Constitution of the United States of America. "A Well Regulated Militia, being necessary to the Security of the Free State, The Right of the People to Keep and Bear Arms Shall Not Be Infringed". In regard to owning a vehicle, or a house, these are not privileges as you would suggest...we all have a right to own these things. They would be privileges if given to you, regardless of your ability to pay for and maintain them. However, some people, for whatever reason, do not have the means or the desire to do so. There is nothing that keeps us from owning these things, no law prohibiting it, no restriction as who may own them, Yet, there seem to be many laws prohibiting the ownership of firearms that do not meet or exceed the criteria set by the self proclaimed 'protectors' of society. The writings of Jefferson, Madison, Franklin, Hancock and others are very clear that skill at arms was (and should be still) a vital component in the success of our Nation. The People are the Militia, Sir. It is OUR DUTY to guard jealously the freedoms and liberties our ancestors fought and died to provide. The Bill of Rights were never intended to grant natural rights to the Citizens, they were intended to PROHIBIT the government from seeking to remove or control them. The Second deals specifically with one of the ways the People have to defend ourselves and our Nation. The Declaration of Independance states "...Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomese destructive to these ends, it is the right of the People to alter or to abolish it" (Bold and italics are my additions of emphasis)How Sir, would a people resist or defend against a tyrannical government if prohibited the means to do so? You see, the assualts on the Second Amendment are nothing more that continual assualts on the Nation. There are laws that prohibit the use of firearms in certain situations, ie murder, robbery, etc. However, nothing this gentleman did seems to have violated any standing statute. Would you be wringing your hands and asking this question had Mr Jordan cut the laptop with a chainsaw, or bashed it with a ball bat? Either of which, can be just as dangerous when used inappropriately. Handguns, as with all firearms, are tools. Nothing more. Their intended purposes are specific, just as with a hammer or screwdriver. Why then the emotional rhretoric?

How did this action come around to the right to own a gun. This has nothing to do with gun ownership, this is about a parent actually parenting and sending a message to his daughter not to disrespect her parents. I will applaud any parent that displines their children. The world needs more parents like this versus the parents that don't believe in displine because they think a TIME OUT actually works. Again, the right of gun ownership has nothing to do with this story.

I agree with his principles; kids nowadays are disrespectful and spoiled. They want it all, and they want it NOW. It's cool to trash-talk your parents. The only thing I disagree with is him shooting the laptop; he could have given it to charity. That was a waste of time and money.

The point of him shooting the gun was that he told her the next time she did something disrespectful on facebook, he's put a bullet through her laptop. He wanted to show her that he'd do it. Granted, 9 bullets was a little much, but it's fun to shoot a gun. Why not? What about the men on mythbusters that waste stuff all the time? What about you, when you throw toys, food and clothes away you could give to someone else, a food pantry, or goodwill? We're all so quick to point a finger at what this man did, when it was his laptop, his gun, his property. He was showing his daughter that he would stick to his word.
Too many parents threaten punishments without going through with them, and that's why children are so spoiled and disrespectful. I applaud this man for doing what he did.

Good on you, Dad. That's the best reaction I've seen in a long time, and rightly so. You're not alone, as we in Australia are having the same problems with disrespectful teens here. I know that it is not wholly the teens problem, because authorities have given them all the rights (it seems) and taken the rights of parents away. This to me, is the DECLINE of humans, who now don't care about anything but themselves. What a sad, sorry world we live in. Don't back down Tommy, I know you got to this point out of sheer frustration, but you still did the right thing

TEENS ARE SO SPOILED , THEY DONT WANT TO UNDERSTAND REAL LIFE BECAUSE THEY ARE SOO COOOOOLLLL.! , THEY KNOW EVERYTHING, HAVE EVERYTHING AND DONT EVEN LOOK THANKFUL FOR WHAT THEY ASKED TO HAVE FOR FREE. GOOD RESPONSE TOMMY , KIDS WHO CANT RESPECT NOTHING , DESERVE A LITTLE BANG BANG ON THE NOT SO IMPORTANT MATERIAL THAT MAKES THEIR JUDGEMENTS COMPLETELY DUMB AND WRONG BANG BANG GOOD SHOTS.. GOOD WAYS TO BE SURE THAT THE DAMN PC WONT WORK FOR STUPID MANNERS ANYMORE.
