Toyota is forced to consider a Corolla recall after reports of power steering problems continue to surface (This is a separate issue from the Corolla recall stemming from brake problems). In Japan, the Lexus JS250h and Sai Hybrid are getting recalled as well. The Toyota Corolla is the world's best-selling car.
Meanwhile, Toyota plans to add black boxes (data recorders) to upcoming models, along with fail-safe braking systems that will be activated when the accelerator and brake are engaged at the same time. Expect your engine to cut out rather often when teaching your kid to drive.
The company's dealers estimate that 70% to 80% of Prius vehicles will be successfully recalled by the end of the month, Toyoda said. Toyota's possible recall of the Corolla comes after customer complaints about its power steering.
