Trey Pennington Suicide: Social Media Personality Dead
Trey Pennington Commits Suicide in Church Parking Lot
Social media personality Trey Pennington committed suicide in front of police on September 4. Pennington was approached by police officers in the parking lot of the Second Presbyterian Church in Greenville, South Carolina. Pennington held a gun, which officers told him to put down. Pennington then apparently killed himself with a single shot.
Trey Pennington was a social media marketer and evangelist who espoused the value of online connections, which are often with strangers, as being measured with non-financial metrics. No doubt this will become grist for the mill as the social media professional community tries to make sense of his death.
The WYFF story below actually raises more questions than it answers, as it mentions that Trey Pennington had been told to stay away from the church due to a "prior incident".
According to police they asked Pennington multiple times to put the gun down, but Pennington turned the gun on himself and fired a single shot.
Trey Pennington was 45, and a father of six.
Trey Pennington's friends and followers are finding out about his death, and are weighing in on Twitter. You can see some of their responses below.
