Fail Whale Ahoy: Twitter is Down

It's not just you. Twitter is indeed down as of 9:15am PT/12:15 ET on June 21, 2012. If you access Twitter via a client (Tweetdeck, Twitroyd, Twhirl, etc), you may not notice right away, but it's immediately evident if you try to access twitter.com.

Yes, we have to specify the date, since Twitter is no stranger to outages. Twitter may have redesigned its logo, but the Fail Whale remains unchanged.

The Twitter outage was/is due to an infrastructure problem; we love the term "cascading bug".

Twitter has become almost like a utility, yet it's still fairly hinky. We still assert that the bulk of Twitter development comes from outside Twitter itself.
