UK Gamblers lose after another year without a white Christmas
Bookmakers in the UK, William Hill, will not have to pay out about a million pounds after gamblers in the UK bet that it would snow on Christmas Day, and although it did get cold, it didn't snow.
The bookmakers are relieved, but the gamblers are not, as Rupert Adams, spokesperson for William Hill said.
He said: "Much like the abominable snowman, Britain's favourite festive flutter is in danger of becoming extinct as snowfall becomes increasingly rare in December. But we are not sorry to see no snow as it would have cost us a monster million pound-plus payout."
Christmas Day was cloudy and cold but dry, with a brisk wind blowing in from the east.
The Met Office predicts the weather will get colder over the next few days as the cloud lifts and there will be overnight frosts across the country. Temperatures will be around 39 degrees Fahrenheit (4 degrees Celsius) although it will be warmer in cities.
In order for it to qualify as a White Christmas, one flake has to fall in one of the 14 areas designated in the betting rules.

I remember that a few years ago the bookmakers in Glasgow would only accept a white Christmas if a flicker of snow dropped on to the roof of the Daily Record newspaper offices.

Yeah I think it's too subjective -- if snow doesn't fall in the right place, they don't count it!

I never understood this gambling mania.
