Columnist Clifford Bryan talks about unemployment rates and the unemployed on Labor Day .
The Barack Obama administration stimulus package saved us from a depression and stopped a recession . The one question people are asking , where are the jobs? With unemployment rates at 9.7% , a 20 year high , and close to seven people applying for every job , the numbers are stacked against many obtaining work . Many of the unemployed have given up after searching for months . For many the only immediate benefit from the stimulus package has been extended unemployment benefits . If you are one of the lucky recipients of this bit of change , nourish it and try and make it grow , if you go under there are not many safety nets to save you from financial ruin . State unemployment offices are processing unemployment insurance claims at a record pace .
