United Airlines has just announced they will now DOUBLE its current second-checked baggage fee.  It was $25, and as of this Tuesday that will jump to $50.  This new fee will affect all travel on or after November 10th.

United says the $50 one-way fee will apply for tickets bought beginning Tuesday for travel beginning November 10 within the U.S. or to or from Canada, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Travelers in first or business classes, "Premier" frequent fliers and active-duty military personnel traveling on orders will be exempt. United estimated the $50 fee would apply to about one out of every seven customers.

That's FUBAR, and with airline safety being what it is, I wouldn't want to fly anymore anyway.

I saw too many things happen on the 26 flights I took in the first 6 months of 2006

Wow, United are really pushing the envelope here. From August 1st they started charging for alcohol on international flights; $6 per drink! Cheeky. I hope this does not set a precedent, but I suspect it will.

While changing planes in Denver on a trip from Chicago to Spokane, I came across this artifact from the past. Kind of says it all for the airlines and what they think of their customers.
