Another cluster of Web and media companies announced layoffs yesterday, among them blogging software company Six Apart, Wired, and Al Gore's Current. It was enough to cause plenty of panic at Valley watercoolers-- even chatter it was another Internet bust. But let's get real: Less than 100 people lost their jobs. Indeed, not counting Hewlett Packard, eBay and Yahoo, layoff announcements have been numerous this fall, but not very big in size. Do entrepreneurs think they're done with the scalpel, and, if so, are they kidding themselves?

Steve Fletcher, managing director at GCA Savvian, votes yes and says there's a lot more job loss ahead for the Valley.

Pretty interesting predictions. The Valley has for sure started doing a couple layoffs here and there, but how is the Valley really going to take the hits of this new economic global slowdown that is taking place. Predictions from Steve Fletcher are that things will start getting ugllier in the Valley and probably there is going to be a whole lot more job lost occuring.

was in the industry when they were downsizing the last time.  Was a scary time for a lot of folks.  Companies were out sourcing jobs like mad, the Co I was with just in our division let 125 people go.  Things are changing .. we as a whole need to figure out a way to keep these jobs or open up new outlets for jobs.  Other wise the economy will not get better.  The answer is to keep positions here not out sourcing them to India or other places.
