Verified Identity Pass Shuts Down: No More Clear Airport Security

Verified Security Pass has shut down, ceasing operation of Clear Airport Security, which had offered expedited movement through security lines at 18 airports. All those Clear lanes, and attendant staff, have packed up and left. Those who paid $200 for expedited service must resume taking off their shoes with the rest of us.

According to CNET, Clear was charging subscribers' credit cards until the moment they shut down. People will be pissed off to have been charged anew for a service that was immediately shut down, though there's not much they can do about it, since Clear has apparently failed beyond recovery.

At 11:00 p.m. PST on June 22, 2009, Clear will cease operations. Clear’s parent company, Verified Identity Pass, Inc. has been unable to negotiate an agreement with its senior creditor to continue operations.
The message to frequent travelers and Clear subscribers like myself? "Get back in line."
