Vincentric, which tracks vehicle ownership costs, is finding that, even in today's economy, new car costs do not match true market value.
The Forbes article has no text-based list, so here's the Vincentric list of most overpriced vehicles:
- Pontiac G6 Coupe
- Chevrolet Colorado
- Ford Ranger Supercab
- Pontiac G6 Sedan
- Ford Ranger 2WD
- GMC Canyon
- Jeep Wrangler
- GMC Envoy
- Chevrolet Trailblazer
- Dodge Caliber
- Dodge Durango
- Dodge Nitro
- Jeep Liberty
- Mercury Grand Marquis
- Dodge Ram 2500
Vincentric found the Dodge Ram 2500 is overpriced by 25%.
The Jeep Liberty, for example, has a true market value 20.9 per cent lower than its MSRP; the Dodge Ram 2500 is worth 26 per cent less; and the Chevrolet Trailblazer is worth 16.4 per cent less than its MSRP.
One of the factors measured was customer satisfaction, which can be a somewhat nebulous metric. This is why no luxury brands on the list: People who buy Mercedes Benz and Lotus tend to be happy with the purchase, be it due to craftsmanship, brand identity, or status bestowed.
We used J.D. Power's 2008 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) survey results, and ruled out vehicles that won their segments or scored better than two-and-a-half stars out of five: Any vehicle that scores less than 50 per cent is likely not delivering on the thousands a consumer must shell out to buy it.

I am very happy with my 1999 ford ranger, i only had to replace the brakes once which is expected on these. However i do think the ranger is currently overpriced, no matter how reliable will you really get the extra 4-5k back that they are overcharging because of high demand?
