WalMart is Selling the iPhone 3GS 16GB Black Model For Only $97 With a 2-Year Contract
Wal-Mart has slashed the price on the iPhone 3GS 16GB black model by $100 to just $97 with a two-year contract. This sale has no end date to it and at the moment is not a limited time offer.

Although WalMart has long been known to be competitive in its prices and its iPhone was already $2 cheaper than Apple and AT&T, this price slash is adding fuel to the fire that Apple is getting ready to launch their next iPhone.
When Apple released the iPhone 3GS, WalMart was the first to reduce the price of the first model of the iPhone to just $99, and Steve Jobs is scheduled to speak at the Worldwide Developers Conference on June 7, which is where he has unveiled new versions of the iPhones before according to the WSJ.
In a statement by Mehrdad Akbar, the senior director for wireless at WalMart, he said:
As it is our commitment to always lead on price, we are going to reduce the price on this most popular smartphone so our customers can realize these new saving as soon as possible.”
This statement seems to imply that Apple is going to drop its price on the iPhone 3GS as well to make way for the new model. Apple has not released a statement in regards to WalMart's price drop at this time.

Went to two Walmart stores in western Kentucky and the kiosk clerk said that they had NO iPhones for sale, didn’t know anything about this new deal, and basically didn’t know what I was talking about when I asked about the $97 2year contract. She blamed ATT for removing the phones from the local market. She also said that no one will find an iPhone at a Walmart, and that the special deal doesn’t exist. Bait & switch? Or maybe they’re waiting for the 4G announcement on June 4th for some reason.

Same deal in WV. Called several stores, none in stock...

Same thing in Charlotte, NC the ad just came out and the rep said that every store in the was "sold out" and wouldnt be receiving more.

In Fredericksburg, Va Walmart has 3 stores in that area and only 1 of the 3 stores sold the iphone for $97. So I had gone to the store to purchase it only to find out that if you have an acct with AT&T you cant get the deal unless your contract is up for renewal to upgrade to a new phone. Walmart told me if I wanted the phone now, that I would have to pay $297, since my contract to upgrade isnt until 8/10. Needlesstosay I almost had an iphone for $97. The store only had 5 iphones for sale. Go figure!

I went to 3 Walmart locations here in MN. Here is what I found out. The Iphone is available but, only at the Walmarts that have AT&T kiosks. And given the popularity and price the only one that I found ( with AT&T) was all sold out.

I got 2, had to call around to 15 stores before I got one. now the website does not show that they even carry iphones. what gives, was looking forward to getting a 3rd one.
