iPhone 5 to Be Announced September 12, 2012

If you're thinking of buying an iPhone 4S, ... don't. There's a very good reason that every big-box retailer in America has knocked $50 off the cost of the iPhone 4S, and that's because it's about to become yesterday's news.

The iPhone 5 will be announced on September 12, 2012. Our sources for September 12 as the iPhone 5 announcement date:

When Will the iPhone 5 Ship?

According to several of the sources above, the iPhone 5 will ship September 21.

So, don't fall for it. Don't buy a discounted iPhone 4S now. You know what will happen come September 12? The same thing that happened when the iPhone 4S was announced: the earlier model will be even cheaper. You actually get two kinds of screwed if you buy an iPhone 4S now.

If you're content with having an older version of the iPhone, that's cool. Wait until after the announcement to see the price drop to below what it is now. Keep in mind, though, that iOS6 was designed with the latest hardware in mind... the hardware with the highest retail price.

Meanwhile, Apple has instructed its retail stores to extend the display space set aside for iPads, which suggests new versions of the tablet.

Actually, avoid buying an iPod Nano or iPod Touch as well: both could well be replaced on September 12.

Hearing about some new display technology for the iPhone 5 is nothing new, although an Apple patent made its way online yesterday that not only detailed the new screen, potentially for iPhone 5, but also showed this technology differs slightly from the in-cell we’ve heard about in the past. The image below shows the different layers of this in-cell concept, and in a nutshell this patent describes how Apple can improve the way touch-sensing is integrated into an LCD.
