Wii Like to Watch: Pole Dancing for the Console
After the overwhelming success of Dance Dance Revolution, could a pole-dancing video game be too far behind? My main concern is how one integrates a pole into one's living room (unless one is Big Boi from Outkast). In terms of public interest, though, the allure is clear.
Peekaboo, a company which specialises in stripper poles and recently did a deal with Carmen Electra to sell the 'Electra Pole Professional Pole Dancing Kit', announced that it is in negotiations to bring pole dancing to the Nintendo Wii.
It will focus on the 'fun and fitness benefits', rather the seedier origins of pole dancing.
"Peekaboo and its partners are focussed on using Wii friendly hardware to make aerobic pole dancing instantly accessible just as Guitar Hero did for rock'n'roll," the company said in a statement.
It believes that the plans will meet a "mainstream demand" for pole dancing fitness.
Tracey John from MTV Blogs contacted a rep from Peekaboo Pole Dancing, who are licensing the game:
As for the pole peripheral development, the game’s ESRB rating and how the game would actually work (we imagine you’d need hands on the pole as well as on controllers), he declined to disclose those details. Kay did claim that the company is already in talks with developers and publishers for the Wii title, though they “will still entertain other third parties.”
