Apple Removes Unofficial Wikileaks iPhone, iPad App From iTunes Store: Wiki App Developed By Developer Igor Barinov

An unofficial iPhone, iPad Wikileaks application developed by Igor Barinov, has been apparently removed from the Apple itunes store.

Igor Barinov, the software developer who developed the Wikileaks App has a description of the Wiki app on the Apps review site Appsfire.

The description says the iphone Wikileaks application is not affiliated with Wikileaks nor Apple. The wikileaks application was designed to bring a more elegant and seamless user experience for the Apple ipad and iphone.

Get wikileaks app today for just $1.99! One Dollar For Internet Freedom Internet democracy requires funds to stay strong. By purchasing the wikileaks app, you donate 1 dollar of the purchase price towards organizations that work to promote the future of online democracy. A screen capture shows the wikileaks application has been removed from itunes, though no explanation is given, clearly leaving the developer Igor Barinow puzzled. He posted this comment in a comment thread on Tech Crunch

Idea of app was born 3.12, app submitted 10.12 and approved by Apple 17.12

Main idea of semicharity is to collect "white" money to support grey stuff. And from every 1.99$ - 1$ will go to @wikileaks, 0.6$ to fruits company (obligation), and last to cover development costs and to support other free internet projects (or in different way, defined by voting feature in Wikileaks App 2.0). I dont mind what wikileaks posts. But i like the way they are defending what i care about = my domain, my traffic, my 127.0.0.1. And if that way will lead to "alternative internet" - i dont want just to press Like button.

The App sounds like it was built corrupt.  A feeble excuse for a surveillance cage -- what's a "semicharity"?  Out eavesdroppers!  No need to reverse-engineer affinity!  Rather than analyzing interpersonal relations, why don't you focus on outside oppression, and gathering the real information we need to decide autonomously about issues that affect us all?  Wikileaks encourages interest in process analysis, political science, information, and can keep the masses apprised of the manipulation of data, encouraging a healthy scepticism that might otherwise find subject in religion.  I think it's truly liberating and encourages a healthier analysis of complex situations that require public input and attention.   Hopefully someone will come up with a better app that has cleaner access to its purported source.

If indeed the app was corrupt as has been suggested, then it should have been discontinued. If on the other hand, it was removed with the purpose of restricting access to opinion and free speech, then I can think of no greater injustice!

Wow, just found out about this yesterday, I have already cancelled the I phone that I ordered Monday and taken I tunes off of my computer and put Linux on my I pod.I hope more people boycott these companies who abandoned Wikileaks, they are just doing all of this to make headlines so no one will pay attention to the information that Wikileaks is releasing!
