Within the next few months, Wikipedia will get video. Editors will be able to add video elements to articles in the same way they can currently add photos. This also includes a push to get some of the widely-visible videos owned by larger media companies into the public domain, so that they can be freely used for reference.
However, "freely share" is not currently a broadcast-industry matnra.
Wikipedia editors will get a new option, Add Media, which will let them search for videos, and insert portions of the video (via a simple drag and drop interface) into the article. Further plans include annotating the actual videos, and editing as well as reorganizing Wikipedia’s video collection – similar to what is now done with Wikipedia’s articles.
Later, Wikipedia plans to offer ways for users to search the entire Web for importable videos, and plans to provide tools to edit, add to, and reorganize the clips within the Wikipedia website, just as is now done with text.

That will be bonus. Wikepedia is a great public resource.

Wikipedia is great for science, math and movie plots, but anything political or controversial often ends up highly biased. Currently they block YouTube links, so I guess it would only be video from mainstream media allowed.
