Work your way up the VMware ladder for a brilliant career in the
VMware certification is a prerequisite for those looking to work in the virtualization domain and operate VMware servers. Professionals interested in this rapidly developing, dynamic sphere of software are required to undergo a basic level training in VMware that is nevertheless intense, thorough and detailed. After a certification, a professional is designed as a VMware Certified Professional (VCP).
Previously, the only other certification one could obtain after a VMare course was the VMware Certified Instructor, after passing with a high score in the VMware exam. Recently, two more certifications have opened up for professionals so that interested candidates can branch off into different sectors of virtualization after the relevant VMware training.
To become a VCP, one must attend training classes taught by an authorized instructor. Online courses do not qualify a candidate to appear for a VMware certification exam. There are three classes a professional must attend - VMware vSphere to install, manage and configure VMware servers, VMware vSphere to troubleshoot issues and VMware vSphere Fast track programme. To become a VCP, one must be familiar with these modules.
The recent training programme allows two more certifications - that of the VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP). VCAP branches into two certifications.
1. VCAP Data Center Administration ( VCAP - DCA)
This certification is more detailed than a basic VCP and focusses on support and administration of vSphere. Professionals undergoing VMware training or a VMware course in this field will be in a position to handle complex vSphere configuration. VCAP DCA is primarily an administrative certification that focuses on implementing, maintaining, administering, troubleshooting and automation runs on vSphere.
2.VCAP Data Center Design ( VCAP - DCD)
To be certified as a VCAP DCD professional, one must undergo a thorough training in modules to design vSphere infrastructure, work with storage and connectivity, integration with applications and components for interaction within and outside of the virtual system.
VCP is the basic qualification required by the professional to appear for a VCP - DCA or VCP - DCD certification. Separate VMware training modules have been designed for each of these certifications. If one does not qualify the first time, he or she can must wait ten days to retake it.
The last and highest certification level is that VCDX or a VMware Certified Design Expert (VCDX). These professionals are considered VMware masters and are highly proficient in designing and developing vSphere infrastructure. VCDX certification is not exam based. For this, one must undergo extensive training, pass both VCP - DCA and VCP - DCD exams and apply directly to VMware for the certification. There is no exam to certify a professional as a VXCD. If VMware accepts an application for VCDX certification, the candidate must submit a design for a new infrastructure with architectue diagrams, support and implementation documentation for the proposed architecture. On approval, a review panel interviews the candidate to guage his proficiency and skill in the field. If the applicant tackles the review board successfully, he or she is awarded the elite VCDX certification, the highest VMware certification one can achieve!
With a plethora of certifications, training modules and a well-designed VMware course designed for each level of certification, professionals treading the VMware path stand to gain a spectacular career in the field of virtualization!
