The world's first electric family car - Built in Britain?
Nissan has unveiled an affordable electric family car that could soon be sitting in thousands of garages around Britain.
The five-seater Leaf hatchback will be charged from a plug socket at home and has a top speed of 76mph.
'It is a powerful car, like having a turbo,' said Carlos Ghosn, Nissan's chief executive, adding there will be no delay in response since there is no gear shift.
No good here in the Philippines to many power cuts (Brown Outs), lol
On the serious side the critics will go on about the fossil fuel and atomic power station. But in UK renewable energy may be winning the battle as for climate change awareness is stepped up, the public want it and the politicians are getting more that is so.
There will be those that say hydrogen is the way forward and those nice nutty professors that opt for renewable wind power with Hugh fans on top of the automobile. lol (I am pulling the leg of a very good friend of whom I know will read this article).
We will see comments about compressed air driven cars at a bet, yep two companies have the proto types on their production line. Then we will have those that opt with solar panels etc, etc.
But don't lets take the wind out of this new electric innovation as most of us really want to see cleaner air. Even if we don't believe in the horrors that humans are causing climate change.
Its a move for the better in my books and its brings the patriotic tears to my eyes thus the flags and the national anthem. lol
The press release is obviously part of a political ploy, also a new market place for environmental friendly toys. Next we will see the old petrol and diesel auto's having to have a CO gas is a danger to your health sticker. Mufti car parks having to have segregated areas Electric and environmental auto's being easy to access and the gas guzzler's having no lift access and the need to climb steep stairways to get to the car.
Petrol and diesel being increased with a health hazard tax.
Oh, my vision of the future may seem a bit comical but its probably very close to the truth, lol

oh this is indeed an interesting piece of news. Will this car be available in India. If so then it will surely be a challenge for Reva and he upcoming Bavina cars of India? and more electric cars means more eco-friendly tomorrow. good going nissan

I think it is great that it is more eco-friendly, although the corporate guff goes on about the top speed being 76mph. We have enough fast cars and in the wrong hand's they're a lethal weapon.
As many roads are now 20mph or traffic is often at a standstill, even this 76mile hour car will be stuck behind about twenty other 'fast cars' smarled up in hot and sweaty jams. I will probably pass the car on my bike.

I suggest the car is tried out on the Bow Road, in London, snarled up at the traffic lights behind many concrete mixers for ages and it will be a matter of time before it will start steaming or blow up and will have to be pulled over by the roadside. Never fear, as there are plenty of bike hire places nearby.

It may not be a good idea for the National Anthem to be played when it's hogging the roadside.

In Cambridge, parents use Dutch 'wheel barrow bikes', to take their kids to school, a lot cheaper than this eco-car and there are no parking tickets to pay or expensive insurance. It is nice and slow, none of this 'silly fast nonsense'. Who wants to get to work quickly anyway? Ok, it is Dutch but when are we Brits going to make one?

I must admit I am lazy as I have a mountain bike siting out side in the garage, but its easy and quicker to use the gas guzzling scooter to go into the city. One good thing I don't drink and drive so it keeps me away from the expensive watering holes. But I have my eye on a electric scooter of which I am now considering buying it has a range of 40 Kilometers and can have extra batteries installed. 35 kilo per hour yep it the way to go forward...
Plus no tax nor license needed so my partner can also drive when she needs to, I have been bullying her to go and get a license but its been a case of tomorrow, tomorrow, lol.
