As the deal between Yahoo! and Google seems to go down along with the credit crisis,Yahoo! is in desperate search for a few friends with deep pockets to buy them out of their misery. Only after their scofting of Microsoft, they have little friends left. In any way, Microsoft does not want to play ball again, thus Jerry Yang is under tense presure. Although denied by Yahoo! according to VentureBeats Matt Marshall:

Here’s a rumor (printed below) that we got and which has apparently been making the rounds. It’s important to note that the NYT has since written a story saying that Yahoo has denied the rumor, and that both Yahoo and Microsoft say rumors of a merger deal are also false.

It is quoted that Jerry Yang said at the Web 2.0 conference yesterday:

To this day, I have to say that the best thing for Microsoft to do is to buy Yahoo. I don't think that is a bad idea at all... at the right price, whatever the price is, we are willing to sell the company. We were ready to negotiate, we wanted to negotiate a deal, and we felt that we weren't that far apart. But at the end of the day, they withdrew and they since have been very clear about not wanting to buy the company."

Unfortunatly for him, Microsoft has yet to comment but it is expected that Steve Balmer does not intend to buy Yahoo! after burning his fingers on this company once. Otherwise, Microsoft might wait untill there are absolutely no friends left and then buy Yahoo! for a very decent price. After all, Yahoo! does have some interesting assets for Microsofts planned conquest of the internet!

eluxzen, I like this story. It's good stuff. The best-laid plans of (3-button) mice and men...
