Remember GeoCities? Well, it will live forever as a memory, since parent company Yahoo! is shutting down the free web-hosting service.

No new users can join, and existing users are being funneled toward Yahoo!'s premium hosting, unless they decide to either seek hosting elsewhere or shutter their GeoCities content entirely. GeoCities is by no means the only free hosting service out there, and indeed was out-developed and out-themed by several other players in the field.

GeoCities’ traffic has been falling over the past year. According to ComScore, GeoCities unique visitors in the U.S. fell 24 percent in March to 11.5 million unique visitors from 15.1 million in March of 2008. Back in October, 2006, it had 18.9 million uniques.
