Isn't the first rule of telemarketing to call anyone and everyone on a "Do Not Call" list?

Bell Canada will operate the National Do Not Call List.

The CRTC announced Friday that it has awarded a five-year contract to Bell to keep track of those Canadians who wish not to be contacted by telemarketing firms.

The federal telecommunications regulator says Bell was the only bidder that complied with the requirements of their request for proposal issued in July.

The contract stipulates the list should be launched by Sept. 30, 2008.

Bell Canada will be responsible for registering numbers, providing telemarketers with updated versions of the list, and receiving consumer complaints about telemarketing calls, a CRTC release said.

The release also states Bell will operate the list using the fees that telemarketers will pay to subscribe to the list.

Shouldn't they just put everyone on this list and have done with it?

EXACTLY, why are they wasting all this manpower and money to creat a list, that will need to be updated periodically, when they should ban direct cold call marketing! I personally have never bought anything OVER the phone and with the internet accessibility and visuals, will never purchase on the phone, at least not from someone calling me. Who does? who's empowering these telemarketing companies?? they boast sales in the millions? yikes I feel sorry for the elderly who cant say no!

Someone should put Bell Canada on the DO NOT CALL LIST. I feel that they have the most dishonest marketing in Canada. They constantly annoy you at home with useless phone calls asking if you are satisfied with the particular service you have purchased from them, when in fact they alreay know they have screwed you over royally and are now giving you the chance to actually subscribe to the service you originally wanted but at a much higher price.  You then have to bargain and try to negotiate with their customer service reps in order to obtain the actual service you had originally agreed to but did not get in writing and are now advised that this was never agreed to by them!!! I think that someone should actually boycott Bell Canada to teach them a lesson once and for all. If I started a "Screwed Royally By Bell Canada List," I bet the site would crash within 20 minutes from overuse.

Something Germany does very, very right: telemarketing is illegal there. It's spam over the phone.

Try Canadian National Do Not Call List do not call list https://www.lnnte-dncl.gc.ca/. It is takes only 30 seconds to register your phone number.

Registering on the National Do Not Call List (DNCL) will not eliminate all telemarketing calls. There are exemptions within the Rules that may allow calls from organizations such as charities, those with whom you have existing business relationships, political parties and newspapers.

Good luck!

I have tried to sign up for the do not call list and it did not work.  I ended up having to contact Bell Canada by email to tell them to stop calling and harrassing us or I was going to take them to court.  I got an email from the head of the marketing department telling me he would make sure our phone number was taken out of their data base completely.  Well almost a year went by and no phone calls but about a month ago we got a call from bells telemarketing and we had to tell them that we will take matters to the courts if they call us one more time.  So obviously Bell is not doing their job by not honouring the no call list.
