BiTMICRO to Debut 416GB IDE Flash Solid State Disk Packed in 2.5-inch Rugged Hard Disk Drive Footprint

New Breed of Proprietary ASICs Enables E-Disk Altima ATA-133 Flash SSD to Achieve Unprecedented Performance in its Class - 133MB/sec Burst with 100MB/sec Sustained Read and Write Rates and Over 20,000 Random IOPS

I just get excited reading about advances in solid state drive technology. I look forward to a world free of platters and seek times. I'm really excited about this annoucement and the steadily growing capacity of existing SSD devices by SanDisk and its competitors. This is announcement raises the capacity for the form factor 8 fold over existing 64GB solutions. I still fear the price tags, but hope the smalled capacity SSD's will reach affordability for day to day users in the coming year.

Yeah, this is awesome. I had an iPod mini whose microdrive I plucked out and swapped for an 8GB CF card- the battery life was much better, and the performance quicker. For laptops this would be just awesome.
