CBSNews.com Partners With Digg for U.S. Election Coverage
One path toward the future of news events coverage certainly seems to be big media's interest in partnering with social media sites. I'm sure the CBS/Digg collaboration will be just one of many to come.
CBSNews.com became the latest big-media site to link up with Digg,
the news site that allows users to rate stories and video from the
biggest MSM monoliths to the tiniest blogs. CBS is also, incidentally,
one of a slew of media companies rumored to be kicking the tires on the
perpetually on-the-block social news site, which hired Allen & Co.
to shop itself for a reported $300 million.CBSNews.com will add Digg buttons to its site as part of a
partnership through the 2008 elections, as well as host a list of
top-rated stories by the Digg community. The Wall Street Journal
recently inked a similar pact. CBS's release says the Digg users will
be "exposed" to CBS News video content, including "On The Road"
political segments.
CBS Interactive announced Tuesday that its CBSNews.com property has teamed up with social news site Digg for online coverage of the 2008 election.Through this partnership, the recognizable "Digg buttons" will be featured on CBSNews.com articles and videos that pertain to the election. In return, Digg's election-related headlines will be displayed throughout CBSNews.com.
"This is part of our strategic plan to open CBSNews.com to diverse news, analysis and voices from across the Web," Michael Sims, CBSNews.com's vice president of editorial content, said in a statement from the company. "We are simultaneously exposing our content to the greater Digg community to help encourage more discovery and sharing."
Digg, a hotbed for support of long-shot Republican candidate and Internet darling Ron Paul, already has a "Digg the Candidates" election page.
