Playstation 3 traffic blocked at peak times by Tiscali in the UK.

"Please
note that this is not a major issue and is only affecting a handful of
customers," said Tiscali in a statement.

Handful?
If your children come home from school, dutifully complete their
homework, settle down to play with friends on the Playstation 3... and
then get cut off (at say 6pm), then it matters not how many other
people are affected. Pipex was taken over by Tiscali, and many Pipex
used have found that under the new owners, the service has got worse.

It appears that "traffic shaping" is the issue....

good stuff:

The story has a happy ending. What at first appeared to be a bogus solution, Tiscali suggested a new pair of DNS servers. This were first put into the Playstation config. That didn't work. But later, when entered in the ADSL modem router, everything worked!

The numbers in question are 80.255.252.186 and 80.255.252.187

Checking these two IP addresses leads to an interesting result. They are inside signet.nl and the question arises why are Tiscali suggesting name servers outside the UK? And outside Tiscali?
