Sony to Introduce Skype on PSP
It's now official! Sony will soon introduce Skype features on its new
slim and light PSP (PlayStation Portable) handheld game console.
With the introduction of Skype, PSP owners will be able to
communicate with other Skype users around the world for free, as well
as make low cost telephone calls around the world over the Internet.
PlayStation Portable users worldwide will be able to start using Skype
features and services through a simple system software update scheduled
for release late January.
Upon updating the PSP system software, a Skype icon will be added
to the network category in the home menu, which can be used for
registering in case the user doesn't already have a Skype user name.
For PSP users who already have Skype user names, they need not
waste any more time. They can immediately sign-up for the Skype service
by clicking on the icon.
Meanwhile, to enjoy Skype features on PSP, users will need Memory
Stick Duo, a wireless Internet connection, and a Skype compatible audio
input device. In order to receive calls, they need to stay connected to
the Internet, and sign-in through the Skype screen on the PSP.

Hmmm, and it's less expensive than the iPhone. What is it with Sony's new discovery of how to play with others?

The software hasn't came out yet, maybe at the end of this month. Simply download the skype driver to your psp, the good news is compatible with fat and slim.
It does works like Nokia n800. I owned nokia n800 and psp. I don't pay for any monthly expensive phone call. The thing is, using skype you can't call 911 for emergency, and you have to stay in the hot wifi spot like cafe shop and which ever place provide free wireless. So, everytime you need to call someone, you have to find a free wifi.
I only use Nokia n800 to call, I was a crown point theater. My friend was late, I tried to call him. When I do the scanning on my Nokia a lot of the wireless was un-encrypted which mean is not protected. So is not really convenience using that phone. There is a cool feature, Boingo is the monthly payment which you can connect everywhre without having trouble to find wifi spot.
For me I don't use cell phone that much, so having this Nokia n800 plus psp skype feature, I'll be able to call someone in very low cost. If you have skype pro, calling US to US or Canada is unlimited and test message is unlimited. There is no extra charge but only if you are in pro account.
In the conclusion, I said is well worth it for the person who don't use cell phone that very often, and who like to call friends a lot.
