"We should create things of benefit to the nation with our own brains instead of plagiarizing other nations` intellectual work," Kalla said in remarks at a function marking the presentation of International Communication Technology (ICT) Award 2007 here on Wednesday.

To give added value to domestic products so they would be saleable in the global market, high innovative and creative capabilities were needed, he said.

"If we only plagiarize the work of other nations, we will have no added value and in the long run be unable to compete in the global market," Kalla said, expressing hope that at least five to 10 percent of the innovativeness and creativity at the ICT Award would be marketable.

The vice president said Indonesia to date was still a consumer of other nations` products although the country`s young researchers had already turned out a number of innovative things.
